Interns receive a free YMCA membership during their internship.


The purpose of the position will be to provide a broad training experience outlining the YMCA's mission and its impact on the community and the associated non-profit operational practices/procedures that support these efforts. Specific child care focused training and programs will provide practical and real life experience of Early Learning programs within a YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

You will learn to:

  1. Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and demonstrate the YMCA mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
  2. Assist in the planning and executing of program and curriculum for the ELC that meets the highest quality of standards for all assigned programs including, but not limited to, specific knowledge and skills related to Creative Curriculum.
  3. Assist in various parts of the child care program as needed, Kitchen, classrooms, school age sites.
  4. Assist the program directors and executive director with monthly reports, filing, and other regular duties related to the Child Care field.
  5. Obtain overall experience of YMCA/non-profit business model by shadowing in various departments.
  6. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations of the SCFY including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
  7. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Background in Child Care, Early Learning, Education, Social Work or similar discipline.
  2. Desire to work with Toddler-school age children.
  3. Must be able to pass a background.

CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER TRAININGS PROVIDED

  1. New Employee Orientation
  2. CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  3. Mandatory Reporter
  4. Online safety training programs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to stand or sit for long periods each day, must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to walk and climb stairs in order to participate in field trips as well as perform other physical activities to lead participant programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to small children and toys. The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the number of participants and activities occurring. This position works in a variety of environments which can include, but are not limited to, indoors, outdoors, schools and gymnasiums.
